There are many dimensions to Garner, located in the southern portion of Wake County and also in Johnston County.
Garner has always been considered as a "bedroom" community just outside of Raleigh, although it has always been its own town. For folks looking to be near Raleigh, this offered just the right mix of a slower pace of living, but convenience to the jobs and other amenities offered in the larger area of Raleigh. Because of this location, and the expansion of Interstate 40, Garner has experienced a boom in their housing market over the past several years.
Shopping areas in and around Garner have become more plentiful in the last few years as well. One of the largest additions in recent years was the White Oak Shopping Center, located at Exit 306 off I-40. Some of the feature stores here include Kohl's, Best Buy, Target, BJ's Wholesale, movie theatre, large medical & dental complex within the area as well. There is a brand new Wal-Mart located on Highway 42 in Garner and there are other stores in that shopping area, to include many new restaurants located in this growing area as well. The new Johnston County Medical Center is located within minutes of the subdivision on Highway 42.
Many folks have also discovered an area known locally as the "Cleveland" area of Johnston County located in the immediate area of I-40 at Exit 312. This area is known for having larger land space but still with a convenient commute to buyers who will be working in the area of Wake County/Raleigh. There are also buyers who live in this area and commute to the Triangle. People choose to make this drive of approximately 30 minutes in order to get more house for their money and live in an area which is less congested.
Schools in the Garner/Johnston County area are considered to be schools of excellence. Just this year there has been a new high school added!
The Greater Cleveland Athletic Association also offers many types of athletics such as soccer, basketball, football, baseball for all age children.
